History

NPP History

In pursuit of championing the rights and concerns of India's indigenous communities, particularly those in the Northeast, along with ethnic groups, minorities, and marginalized voices, the National People's Party (NPP) was established in January 2013 by the visionary leader Late Purno Agitok Sangma.

Late Purno Agitok Sangma stands among the most distinguished figures in Indian political history. Starting his political journey from Tura in Meghalaya, he ascended to the prestigious office of Speaker of the Lok Sabha. A leader of remarkable versatility, he remained steadfast in representing his people throughout his career. For him, the people were central—they formed the foundation of his guiding principles and inspired his every action.

His vision was rooted in the aspirations of ordinary people and grassroots challenges, making the National People's Party truly a people's movement—one whose values are deeply intertwined with the core concerns of its citizens. NPP holds the distinction of being the only party from the Northeast to achieve recognition as a "National Party" in India.

Philosophy

While NPP bears the title of a "National" party, its approach differs significantly from other political parties across India. We embrace and celebrate the country's diversity—recognizing that every region and every state has unique challenges and aspirations.

NPP Philosophy 1

At NPP, we work collaboratively to identify the specific issues and concerns of communities in different regions, striving together to deliver meaningful outcomes. As our founder envisioned, NPP has taken upon itself the responsibility of representing regional aspirations on the national political stage.

We have committed ourselves as a party to advancing the agenda for our people in areas of progress, growth, development, and establishing our distinct identity in the national discourse.

NPP Philosophy 2

Achieving recognition as a "National" party represents a monumental milestone for the people of Northeast India. It is a moment to honor the legacy of our late leader Purno Sangma, whose tireless contributions made this achievement possible. Though he is no longer with us, his ideals and vision will endure forever.

At NPP, we view ourselves not merely as a political entity but as a platform for all ethnic communities and marginalized voices. Our party's national recognition stands as proof that despite our differences and diversity, when we unite with common purpose, we can reach extraordinary heights.

Our Commitment

We continue to uphold the principles of inclusive governance, regional empowerment, and people-centric policy-making that define our party's character and mission across India.
